Last night at the legendary Madison Square Garden, Miguel Cotto from Puerto Rico defeated Antonio Margarito from México to retain his Junior-Middle Weight Title with a TKO at the end of the 9th inning.
Cotto won all the rounds and was ahead by 7 points in all the cards of the 3 judges. Margarito´s right eye was completely closed by the 7th round. His eye was checked between rounds and at the end of the 9th inning, the ring doctor Anthony Curreri advised the referee Steve Smoger to stop the fight, and even though Margarito pleaded him to continue the fight, Smoger stopped the main event and did not let the 10th round begin to prevent further damage to Margarito´s eye.
